Pianists Matthew Harrison and Vlada Yaneva present Night in the Garden of Spain

The Iberian Peninsula is an evocative land – by day the sun strikes the earth as an anvil, while the night overwhelms the senses with a garden paradise lush, sensual, and musical.  Moorish delights, Christian ritual, Sephardic devotion, and the wild footsteps of flamenco dancers still linger in the night atmosphere.  It is a land that has compelled musicians to sing, clap, stomp, dance, strum, and play the piano.  The great masters of Spanish music, Issac Albéniz, Manuel de Falla, and Enrique Granados worked like alchemists to capture the rare Spanish element and transmute it into the sound of the piano.  Even the Frenchmen Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel were not immune from the allure of the Iberian Peninsula, and their Spanish flavored works have the native feel.  Join us for a musical siesta that will make you stomp, clap, and shout “Olé!”
